On January 29, 2021, POP UP MUSEUM and NIKOLSKAYA GALLERY together with general partner STONEHADGE present the lyrical project "Once Upon a Time" - a double solo exhibition of a married couple of artists M. L. Naumova and A. S. Kanushkin, who have been working in the genre of landscape and still life for several decades.

The exhibition presents works written by artists in their favorite village Vypolzovo near Mozhaisk. Throughout their lives, they traditionally come there every summer and invariably find inspiration in this place. For A. S. Kanushkin, the village has been associated with special impressions and events since childhood, which influenced his decision to devote himself to painting.

Naumova M. L.-a graduate of the Stroganov Art and Industrial School, Kanushkin A. S.-represents the art school at the Institute. Surikov and MGAKHU in memory of 1905. The artists ' works belong to the traditions of the Moscow School of Painting. Its representatives prefer impressionism and post-impressionism-styles that reveal the author's worldview. The handwriting of a representative of this school can always be distinguished by the color saturation and the plot of the picture, full of love for life and the surrounding nature.

"One day" – a kaleidoscope of memories, images and impressions, which was embodied in painting and took on a new importance and meaning. Work is characterized by complexity built composition and color palette, which leads to our conventional view of phenomena to metaphysical perception. The calming influence of nature is captured in the many-sided images of the seasons, each of which turns into a unique landscape.

In the details of the still life, there are nostalgic elements or symbols that draw attention to themselves and recreate familiar sensations in memory. All this tells us about the true talent of the artist, who is able to give his paintings the spirit of life and engage the viewer in a meditative state of presence.

The color scheme of the paintings goes from a strict combination of colors of the same scale to a real riot of colors, depending on the mood, and draws the viewer with it into an equally diverse palette of memories. ” Once upon a time " becomes a barely perceptible moment, recreated on canvas, but it is the moment that sometimes needs an emotion that has meaning for a whole life.

Anatoly Sergeevich Kanushkin and Maria Leonidovna Naumova are members of the Union of Artists, each of them is a participant of more than 80 exhibitions. The artists ' works are in museum collections and private collections in Russia and abroad; Kanushkin's works, in particular, are in the collections of the Russian Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery.
