POP UP MUSEUM presents the personal exhibition of Roman Kazus "The Stranger". Each of the works illustrates the situation of confrontation between the layman and the power structures.

Roma Casus was born in 1987 and has been working in the field of graphic and interactive design for over 10 years. His portfolio includes such large studios as Red Keds, Pichesky and the studio of Artemy Lebedev. Over time, Casus felt cramped within the boundaries of the profession and turned to free artistic creation.

The artist finds the plots of his works in the fragments of the media stream of the media. He is interested in the phenomenon of information consumption. “When we consume media, we almost never witness what we are shown. We only see a certain stream of events. This presentation consists of many factors: perspective, things left behind, and comments that describe the picture, ”explains Kazus.

Today the media are the main source that shapes our picture of reality, and plays the role of a projection of the events that have taken place. The artist attaches great importance to the problem of perception and the need for critical understanding of the information received.

The Outsider project develops the idea of information as a synthetic media product. The works are based on news photos of contemporary protests. The concept of the project divides people into direct participants in the event and outside observers, for whom the media form a subjective view. The participants themselves are also divided: their interpretation of the event is polar, depending on their position.

In The Stranger, the artist turns entirely to contrasts. He forms the opposition between well-equipped security forces and the naked figures of ordinary people, emphasizing their nakedness in the face of pressure. By enhancing the artistic effect of the works, Casus also creates a polarity between abstract and figurative painting. Thus, the semantic meaning of the works manifests itself in front of the viewer at different levels in the confrontation between technogenic and flesh, abstract and figurative, narrative and incoherent.
