This morning was my first in Nizhny Novgorod. I started my way from the hotel on Strelka to get to know the city. It was a clear day. And apparently a big holiday. On the street in front of the church, two monks were swinging a huge Cathedral bell. Parishioners held onto the edges of the bell with their fingertips. They let its deep hum, the vibration of a multi-ton machine that shook the air, pass through themselves. They made wishes out loud and to themselves. Delight, importance, collective joy, contact with primordial emotions. Like a herd of hooves of red swift horses, the ringing spread across the sky in all directions and to the heavens with a blindingly white sun. Faith in the best solution to all life situations filled the body. The blood ran faster. Success was irreversible.
